Deputy Injured in Napa County Auto Accident on Freeway Drive
NAPA COUNTY, CA (November 23, 2023) – Thursday, authorities arrested Zakiya Genesis Willis and Mikaela Unique Hampton after a crash on Freeway Drive.
The incident happened at around 1:00 p.m. Deputies from the Napa County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Napa Premium Outlets on Freeway Drive after a theft report from the Gap clothing store, said sheriff’s spokesperson Henry Wofford.
According to a Gap employee, they saw two women cutting security sensors off clothing items and then leaving with about $1,200 in merchandise without paying.
Then, a deputy noticed the women went to their car with two large bags without Gap labeling. Thus, they tried to pull their vehicle over as it left the parking lot. However, the car went south on Freeway Drive, and a pursuit began involving both deputies and Napa Police officers.
The 24-year-old driver, Genesis Willis of San Francisco, made a U-turn and drove north on Freeway Drive. Then, her vehicle crashed into the vehicle of the deputy who had first seen her leaving the outlet mall.
After the crash, responders treated the deputy for non-life-threatening injuries.
Meanwhile, sheriff’s deputies detained Willis and her passenger, 34-year-old Mikaela Unique Hampton of Bay Point. Officers confirmed that both of them refused medical treatment. Then, they were booked into the Napa County jail.
Willis was booked for charges of felony assault with a deadly weapon due to the collision with the deputy’s vehicle, along with felony evasion of peace officers, grand theft, and criminal conspiracy. Meanwhile, Hampton was booked on suspicion of grand theft and conspiracy.
Later on Sunday, both of them were released, Willis on $100,000 bail and Hampton on $10,000.
At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
Due to the limited information available, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.
