Spokane Suspected DUI Crash Kills Zachary Cantafi, Officers Investigate Stephanie Graybeal
Spokane, WA (August 31, 2021) – On Sunday, 25-year-old bicyclist, Zachary Cantafi, dies, while officers investigate 55-year-old Stephanie Graybeal, in a DUI crash on Highway 395.
The fatal crash happened just before 8:30 p.m. near Whitworth University.
Investigating officers said Cantafi was riding a bicycle across the intersection of Hawthorne Road when he was struck by an SUV.
Cantafi was ejected from his bicycle and landed in a southbound lane where was struck by another car.
Rescuers took him to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center where he died.
Officers said he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
On the other hand, the SUV driver, Graybeal, did not suffer injuries in the accident. Similarly, the second vehicle’s driver, 20-year-old Sencia Egland, also did not suffer injuries in the incident.
Meanwhile, the authorities said the cause of the crash was failure to yield. They suspect drugs or alcohol were a factor.
Officers are investigating Graybeal for vehicular assault.
