46-Year-Old Man Crushed to Death by Truck on the Highway 70 On-Ramp at Erle Road
YUBA COUNTY, CA (February 12, 2018) – A man was killed on Monday after a truck tipped over on Highway 70 and Earle Road, at around 1:15 PM.
According to California Highway Patrol, the 2016 Western Star semitruck driven by 54-year-old Christine N. Straub of Grass Valley, made a left turn on the Erle Road on-ramp to southbound Highway 70 in the Olivehurst area.
At that moment, a 46-year-old man of Fairfield was standing on the right shoulder of the Erle Road on-ramp next to his Dodge Ram pickup truck. The semitruck and its trailer tipped over and landed onto its right side, crushing the man. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Gravel spilled out of the trailer, also hitting the Dodge Ram. The driver of the semitruck was brought to Rideout Memorial Hospital in Marysville to receive treatment for moderate injuries. It was reported that the 17-year-old boy in the passenger seat of the Dodge was not injured.
The deceased man’s name has not been released pending notification of his family.
