Jim Wells County Big Rig Crash Results in Fatalities
Jim Wells County, TX (May 19, 2023) – On Tuesday, Yolanda Gaona, 72, of San Juan, and a 10-year-old child, sustained fatal injuries following a North Highway 281 collision.
The vehicle collision happened at about 10:08 p.m. at the intersection with County Road 116.
Investigating officers said an 18-wheeler was traveling on the freeway in the outside lane. At the same time, a GMC Terrain was eastbound on CR-116. The GMC failed to yield the right of way at the intersection and collided with the big rig.
Gaona, the GMC Terrain driver was transported to Corpus Christi Spohn Shoreline, in Corpus Christi, with critical injuries, but died on Thursday.
Unfortunately, a 10-year-old child passenger was declared dead at the scene. The 14-year-old child passenger the GMC Terrain was also taken to Corpus Christi Spohn, in Alice, with critical injuries. Reports said both children were thrown from the vehicle as a result of the collision.
In the meantime, the authorities are investigating the fatal collision.
