Yaritza Vasquez Dies After Crash on Verrado Way in Buckeye

Buckeye, AZ (June 21, 2024) – On Thursday night, 18-year-old Yaritza Vasquez died, and two others sustained injuries in a crash on Verrado Way.

Around 10:15 p.m., a Buckeye police officer patrolling near Verrado Way and Sunrise saw a speeding black Dodge Challenger run a stop sign. 

The officer attempted to pull over the 18-year-old driver, but he sped off. Police reported that the officer then lost sight of the vehicle.

Shortly after, another officer saw the same vehicle speeding without headlights near Verrado Way and Indian School Road. As officers searched for the vehicle, they discovered it had crashed into a nearby tree.

Authorities reported that 18-year-old passenger Yaritza Vasquez died at the scene. Another passenger, a 15-year-old boy, and the driver were both hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Traffic was restricted at northbound Verrado near Main Street and southbound Verrado near Sunrise Lane.
