Yareli Lopez Dies in Turlock Hit-and-Run Car Accident, Josue Leyva Arrested
Turlock, CA {November 10, 2020) – On Sunday, 11-year-old Yareli Lopez died, while police arrested 25-year-old Josue Leyva of Turlock in a deadly hit-and-run crash on Lander Avenue and Linwood Avenue.
Authorities responded to the fatal crash involving a silver Ford SUV and a red Honda Civic.
When they arrived, they found an 11-year old girl, Yareli Lopez, from the Honda Civic, with major injuries.
Rescuers took her to a local area hospital, where she later died.
Meanwhile, four other occupants of Honda Civic all sustained minor injuries. Rescuers took them to a hospital.
Police said the Ford SUV, driven by Leyva was also involved in another collision moments before.
Apparently, Leyva crashed with a man on a Harley Davidson motorcycle in the 1600 block of Lander Ave.
The motorcyclist sustained moderate injuries and was rushed to a hospital.
Leyva fled the scene on foot shortly after both crashes.
Authorities said they do not know if alcohol or drugs were a factor in both crashes, but consider high speed in both collisions.
Further, police said Leyva voluntarily went into the Turlock Police Department Monday morning for an interview.
They arrested and charged him with vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and of hit-and-run-causing injury.
The authorities continue to investigate the crash. Anyone with information is asked to call the Turlock Police Department.
