1 Person Dead in San Diego Auto Accident on Interstate 15 near Aero Drive

SAN DIEGO, CA (August 30, 2023) – Sunday morning, Yannira Rodriguez died in a tragic wrong-way crash on Interstate 15 near Aero Drive.

The incident happened at around 1:30 a.m. on southbound Interstate 15 near Aero Drive.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a northbound Infiniti SUV traveling in the southbound lanes collided head-on with a Honda Fit. Then, the Infiniti continued traveling northbound and collided with a Nissan Altima.

Moreover, responders pronounced the Honda driver, identified as Rodriguez of San Diego, dead at the scene. Then, paramedics transported a 13-year-old passenger of the Honda to a hospital with major injuries. Also, the Nissan Altima driver, a 58-year-old woman, sustained no injuries in the crash.

Furthermore, officers arrested the Infiniti SUV driver, 25-year-old James A. Cox of La Mesa, on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving the wrong way causing injury or death.

At this time, the events leading to the crash remained unclear. When additional information becomes available, the public will be notified.
