1 Dead in Stockton Pedestrian Accident on Highway 4
STOCKTON, CA (April 9, 2023) – Late Thursday night, a construction worker died in a tragic pedestrian crash on Highway 4 in Stockton.
The incident happened just after 11:00 p.m. on westbound Highway 4.
According to CHP, a 21-year-old Stockton woman drove a silver Honda Accord westbound on Highway 4.
However, she went into a construction zone in the two far-right lanes.
Reports said that work crews were pouring concrete in the third and fourth lanes, not allowing access to northbound and southbound Interstate 5.
As she entered the construction zone at around 65 miles per hour. Then, the woman struck the construction worker, identified as a 34-year-old man from Lone Pine.
After the crash, the construction worker succumbed to injuries at the scene.
Meanwhile, officers revealed that the man was working with Caltrans as a contractor.
After the crash, the female driver abandoned her vehicle and fled on foot. Eventually, officers later found her at her home.
Then, they arrested her on suspicion of manslaughter, felony DUI and felony hit-and-run.
“This avoidable tragedy underscores the message we at Caltrans try to put out every day, and that is to please be safe in and around work sites and crews,” Caltrans spokesperson Rick Estrada said. “These are dangerous jobs in dangerous locations, and the utmost safety is required to keep our crews, and those of our contractors, out of harm’s way.”

At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
