Two Women Trapped in Tulare Accident
Tulare, CA (May 20, 2021) – On Thursday, two elderly women were injured in a hit-and-run crash on Levin Avenue.
The accident happened before midnight at the intersection of Spruce Street.
Officers said a GMC Yukon driver lost control of their vehicle and slammed into one house. The vehicle went through and stopped inside the house next door.
Unfortunately, two elderly women were trapped inside the first house. Tulare firefighters helped them get out of the house.
“There were two elderly women sleeping in their beds and the debris pushed in and actually trapped both of them inside. One of them had significant injuries, the other was transported to the hospital with minor injuries,” said Fire Division Chief David Rossman.
Right away, the driver took off running and the authorities have not yet found them. Their passenger also tried to escape but was caught by the authorities.
The incident took out some exterior and interior walls of the two houses.
Meanwhile, the authorities are still searching for the driver.
You need to be fully focused while driving, but all that focus need not be on the car before you.
Moreover, in order to take in, process, and respond to everything happening on the road, you have to constantly scan the road about half to a full mile ahead. This way, you can tell if you’ll need to let go of the gas pedal and prepare for a stop.
Prevent Crash Injuries
While driving is essential for many in order to move about in their lives, it is one of the most dangerous activities performed daily. This is because accidents are a major public health threat. As a matter of fact, traffic accidents are a leading cause of injuries in the U.S.
Here are some ways that we can practice defensive driving:
– First, always drive at the speed limit.
– Also, never ever assume that you know another driver’s intention.
– Then, be prepared to positively react to other drivers.
– Yield at intersections, especially if another vehicle is recklessly trying to take your turn.
– Most importantly, stay focused on the road. Remove all distractions such as cell phones or other devices.
