Oscar Guzman, David Paul Edma, and 3 Children Injured in Fatal Crash near Avenue 392

CUTLER, CA (June 15, 2018) – On Friday evening, a pregnant woman and her unborn child were killed in a head-on collision on Highway 63, caused by a driver under the influence.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision took place around 9:25 PM. A southbound Ford Escape, driven by 24-year-old David Paul Edma of Visalia, entered the opposing traffic in an attempt to pass another car. He struck an oncoming GMC Sierra, driven by 29-year-old Oscar Guzman of Orosi.

Guzman and three children, whose ages range between 9 and 10, sustained major injuries and were transported to the Kaweah Delta Medical Center. Unfortunately, Guzman’s 29-year-old pregnant wife, who was seated in front, was pinned in the GMC as a result of the collision. She was rushed to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno, where she and her unborn child were pronounced dead.

Edma was also taken to the Kaweah Delta Medical Center after suffering serious injuries. Once Edma recovers, he will be booked into the Tulare County Pretrial Facility on suspicion of felony DUI causing death. Authorities also stated that the driver could face second-degree homicide or manslaughter charges if prosecutors believe there is enough evidence to convict him.

No additional information has been released to the public at this time.

Sweet Law offers our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved loved ones of the woman and her child. We wish the Guzman family strength and comfort during this difficult time. May they rest in peace.
