25-Year-Old Castroville Woman Killed in Tragic Vehicle Crash on SR 156 [San Juan Bautista, CA]

San Juan Bautista, CA (February 8, 2024) On Tuesday afternoon, a vehicle crash on SR 156 killed a 25-year-old Castroville female passenger, while the 37-year-old Chualar man driving the vehicle was hurt.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the single-vehicle collision happened at about 2 p.m. on State Route 156 west of Monterey Street.

Reports say that a 2005 Honda Accord, driven by the Chualar man, hit standing water in the roadway and lost control, then the vehicle veered off the road rolled down a ditch, and collided with a tree.

Officials say that the driver suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Natividad Medical Center in Salinas.

Meanwhile, his passenger, the Castroville woman, who was riding in the front passenger seat suffered major blunt-force injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

CHP is investigating the fatal single-vehicle crash, officials believe that drugs or alcohol may have played a role in the collision.
