Passenger Dies in Evening Rollover Crash on Highway 9 in Saratoga
SARATOGA, CA (August 30, 2019) – A 19-year-old woman was killed following a rollover crash Friday evening in Saratoga.
The fatal crash happened around 8:20 p.m. on southbound Highway 99, a mile north of Redwood Gulch Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a mid-1990s Nissan Skyline was traveling southbound on Highway 99 when it veered off the roadway and plummeted down an embankment.
The car then rolled over and landed on its roof against a tree at least 50 feet from the roadway.
As a result, the woman, who was a passenger in the car, died at the scene.
Firefighters extricated the driver from the vehicle and airlifted to a trauma center with critical injuries. He was only described as a 19-year-old man.
Officials closed Highway 9 for more than four hours as crews worked to retrieve the car.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
