Fatal Rollover Accident on Highway 76 in Santa Ysabel
SANTA YSABEL, CA (May 21, 2019) – A woman was killed following a rollover crash Tuesday afternoon on a rural two-way highway in Santa Ysabel.
The fatal crash was reported just before 5:00 p.m., on Highway 76. Dispatchers arrived near the San Luis Rey picnic area shortly after.
Reports indicate that a white Ford Ranger pickup was heading east when for unknown reasons, it veered off the roadway and eventually struck several trees. The Ford then rolled down a 40-foot embankment before coming to rest on its roof.
The driver, a 65-year-old Borrego Springs woman, was pronounced dead on scene due to the impact of the collision. There were no other passengers inside the vehicle at the time.
Furthermore, the surrounding roadway was closed for a brief time while crews worked to clean the scene. The cause of the crash still currently remains under investigation.
