Rosa Huante and Leonila Aguilar Injured in Fatal Rollover Crash on 8 Freeway in Jacumba Hot Springs
JACUMBA HOT SPRINGS, CA (June 7, 2019) – A woman was killed following a rollover crash Friday morning in Jacumba Hot Springs.
The crash happened around 8:31 a.m., on eastbound 8 Freeway. Dispatchers arrived near In-Ko-Pah Park Road shortly after.
According to the California Highway Patrol, 73-year-old Leonila Aguilar of Yuma was traveling with her two sisters from San Diego to Arizona in her 2011 Nissan Rouge on the eastbound lanes of the freeway.
Evidence showed that the Nissan veered left and right on the roadway before entering into an open desert area. The vehicle also overturned several times before coming to rest in a trench as a result.
Officers located the Nissan on its side upon arrival. The left rear passenger, an 83-year-old Encinitas woman, was pronounced dead on scene due to the impact.
The front passenger, Rosa Huante, 70, of Yuma, was taken to El Centro Regional Medical Center for further treatment of moderate injuries.
Aguilar was transported to Scripps Mercy Hospital with major injuries.
CHP added runners on the westbound side of the freeway heard the crash and hurried to the scene to help the passengers of the vehicle and also called 911.
The accident still currently remains under investigation at this time.
