1 Dead in Apple Valley Pedestrian Accident on Outer Highway 18 and Pohez Road
APPLE VALLEY, CA (October 23, 2024) – Monday night, a 79-year-old woman died in a brutal hit-and-run crash on Outer Highway 18.
The incident occurred at about 10:16 p.m. on Outer Highway 18 South, just east of Pohez Road.
Deputies and rescue personnel arrived at the scene to find a female pedestrian down the roadway. Upon investigation, it was determined that an unknown vehicle was traveling east on Outer Highway 18 South, while the pedestrian was walking east on the south side of the road. The vehicle struck the pedestrian and fled the scene.
The pedestrian suffered major injuries and was taken to a hospital, where she later died from her injuries. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T) is currently investigating the incident. Outer Highway 18 South between Pohez Road and Tao Road was closed for about 5 hours as investigators gathered evidence.
