Woman Pushing Shopping Cart Fatally Struck by DUI Suspect in Arcden-Arcade
ARDEN-ARCADE, CA (May 22, 2019 – A 35-year-old woman pushing a shopping cart was killed after being struck by a DUI driver late Wednesday evening in Arden-Arcade.
The crash happened around 11:45 p.m. on Arden Way near Wayland Avenue, not far from Leatherby’s Family Creamery.
The woman was trying to cross the street when she was struck by a black 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLC 350.
The driver, a 52-year-old Dean Barbera of El Dorado Hills, was heading eastbound on Arden Way at high speeds. After hitting the victim, he continued without rendering aid.
The woman, whose identity has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sacramento Police Officers, who witnessed the crash, followed Barbera as he drove away and later pulled him over. They found that Barbera had been driving under the influence of alcohol and arrested him.
Barbera was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on suspicion of DUI causing fatal injuries to another person and felony hit-and-run. His bail is set at $100,000.
