Daniel Juarez Arrested after Fatal Hit-and-Run Collision near Handlebar Road
RAMONA, CA (August 13, 2018) – A woman was killed Monday evening following a hit-and-run crash on Highland Valley Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident took place at about 8:30 PM near Handlebar Road. A black 2000 Lincoln Navigator, driven by 25-year-old Ramona resident Daniel Juarez, was traveling east when it struck a woman who was walking in traffic lanes.
The victim sustained major injuries and died before she could be taken to a hospital. Her identity and city of residence were not immediately released. Meanwhile, Juarez continued driving and fled the scene.
Several hours later, the damaged Lincoln was found abandoned in a supermarket parking lot in the 1400 block of Main Street. Juarez was subsequently tracked down and was taken into custody shortly after 3 AM. Events leading to the arrest were not disclosed by the authorities.
The suspect was booked into San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of hit-and-run, vehicular manslaughter, and probation violation. He was being held on $50,000 bail pending arraignment, scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
