1 Killed and 1 Airlifted after Three-Vehicle Crash near Cottonwood Road
RICHVALE, CA (September 10, 2018) – A woman was killed early Monday morning following a head-on crash on Highway 99. The identity of the 26-year-old victim was not immediately released to the public, pending notification of family.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident took place shortly after 5:00 AM in the area of Cottonwood Road. A 2015 Volkswagen Jetta was heading south on the highway when it drifted into the northbound lane. There, it struck a 2012 Honda Civic, driven by the victim.
After the Volkswagen came to rest in the northbound lane, it was struck by a 2004 Dodge Ram. The 18-year-old woman driving the Volkswagen sustained major injuries, and was airlifted to the Enloe Medical Center in Chico. Unfortunately, she was pronounced dead at the scene by responding officers.
Alcohol and distracted driving were ruled out as possible contributing factors in the fatal crash. However, an investigation is still ongoing to determine the cause of the collision. Authorities did not disclose additional details.
