Fiery Car Crash on 210 Freeway Kills Rancho Cucamonga Woman
Azusa, CA (August 25, 2020) – On Friday, a 24-year-old Rancho Cucamonga woman died while her passenger was injured in a fiery car crash on 210 Freeway.
The fatal accident occurred at around 2:15 a.m. when an SUV struck a tree and burst into flames.
California Highway Patrol Sgt. Jim Eberhart said the victim was trapped in the burning SUV. While her passenger, a 33-year-old woman also from Rancho Cucamonga, sustained a broken left arm and chest pain.
The rescuers took her to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center.
“A 2010 Mercedes GLK 250 was traveling east on the 210 Freeway when it went off the road, struck a tree, and caught fire,” Eberhart said.
He added the passenger was able to get out of the SUV but not the driver.
Meanwhile, the authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash.
Crews closed the southbound Azusa Avenue onramp to the eastbound 210 Freeway for more than three hours before reopening about 5:25 AM. Lanes of the freeway were not affected.
