1 Dead and 1 Arrested after San Diego Car Accident on Highway 76
SAN DIEGO, CA (January 6, 2020) – A 43-year-old woman died while another got arrested after a DUI car accident on Highway 76 on January 3.
According to reports, the suspected drunk driver tried to pass slower-moving vehicles on Highway 76 in Pauma Valley. However, the driver lost control of her eastbound 2010 Toyota Prius around 10:30 p.m.
The vehicle crashed head-on into an oncoming 2002 Infiniti Q35 just east of Adams Drive. As a result, the 43-year-old Winchester female driver of the sedan died on her way to a hospital, CHP public-affairs Officer Kevin Smale revealed.
Her identity remains unreleased due to pending family notification. Meanwhile, medical responders transported a 44-year-old female occupant of the Infiniti to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido.
The Prius driver was also transported to the same hospital with moderately serious injuries. Once she is released, police will book her into San Diego County jail on suspicion of felony DUI.
The collision shut down the rural highway in the area for around 90 minutes.
