Car Crashes into Tree and Overturns on Highway 89 in Hat Creek Killing the Driver and Injuring 2-Year-Old Child
HAT CREEK, CA (November 16, 2019) – A 40-year-old Reno woman was killed and a 2-year-old was injured following a rollover crash Saturday morning in Shasta County.
The crash happened just after 10:00 a.m. on Highway 89 south of Doty Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a silver Chevrolet Trailblazer was traveling northbound on Highway 89 at an unknown speed. For reasons still under investigation, it veered off the road and collided with a large tree stump.
The Chevrolet then overturned before coming to rest on its wheels. The female driver was ejected out of the driver’s side window during the crash.
Paramedics rushed the woman to Mercy Medical Center but died while in transit due to severe head trauma. Her name was not immediately available pending family notification.
Meanwhile, the 2-year-old child inside the Chevrolet sustained a laceration to the back of the head and a chipped tooth.
CHP officials are still piecing together exactly what led up to the crash but do not believe any other vehicles were involved.
We extend our sincere sympathies to the family and friends of the deceased. We also wish the injured child a swift and steady recovery.
