One Dead, One Injured after Bakersfield Car Accident Crash on Highway 178
BAKERSFIELD, CA (October 28, 2019) — One person died and another sustained injuries in a car accident on Highway 178 on Thursday, October 24.
The crash involving a green BMW SUV and a tractor-trailer happened at around 5:35 p.m. on Highway 178 and Rancheria Road.
Officials said that their initial investigation determined that the BMW moved westbound on Highway 178 at high speeds. Then it crashed with the tractor-trailer that made a westbound turn onto Highway 178 from Rancheria Road.
According to Bakersfield police, officers discovered a female passenger of the SUV with major injuries. She died at the scene.
Kern County Coroner’s Office has not yet released the identity of the woman.
The driver of the SUV sustained minor injuries and was brought to a nearby hospital. The driver of the tractor-trailer did not suffer any injuries.
Officials reopened the eastbound and westbound lanes of Highway 178 just after midnight.
It’s not yet determined if drugs or alcohol were factors in the incident.
