1 Dead in San Antonio Bicycle Accident near Southton Road and Loop 410

SAN ANTONIO, TX (August 13, 2024) – Early Monday morning, a 63-year-old woman died in a brutal bicycle crash near Southton Road and Loop 410.

Officers responded to the scene, just before 2:30 a.m. at a convenience store near Southton Road on Loop 410 after receiving word of a person injured.

Police reported that a woman was riding her bicycle north on Southton Road and nearing the SE Loop 410 access road when, for reasons unknown, she fell off her bike and remained on the ground. It was then that a Ford Ranger, traveling east on the access road, struck her while she was still on the ground. Tragically, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities stated that the driver of the vehicle stopped immediately to assist. According to a preliminary police report, the driver was not intoxicated and fully cooperated with the investigation.

Officials mentioned that the woman had been cycling with a man who was ahead of her at the time. When he realized she was no longer behind him, he turned back and found her on the ground.

The identity of the woman has not yet been released.

At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
