1 Dead in Fresno Crash on State Route 99 near Belmont Avenue
FRESNO, CA (December 28, 2021) – Sunday, a woman died in a pedestrian accident on State Route 99 near Belmont Avenue.
According to the CHP, the incident involved two crashes. The first crash occurred when a car struck a woman’s suitcase as she walked on State Route 99 near Belmont Avenue. As a result, the woman’s belongings were thrown across the highway.
Then, another car hit her as she tried to collect her things in the lane of traffic while on her hands and knees.
Meanwhile, the incident shut down all southbound lanes of State Route 99 at Belmont Avenue for about an hour and a half.
According to reports, the second car driver remained at the scene and has been cooperative with the investigation.
Also, the authorities diverted the traffic to SR-180, causing a two-mile backup.
At this time, the authorities haven’t identified whether the woman was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash.
Moreover, the authorities haven’t disclosed further details about the woman. However, the authorities confirmed that DUI didn’t play a role in the case of the driver.
