1 Dead and 3 Hurt in Newberry Springs Auto Accident on Harvard Road
NEWBERRY SPRINGS, CA (December 23, 2020) – Sunday night, a woman died and three suffered injuries in a DUI crash on Harvard Road.
The incident happened at about 10:37 p.m. Moreover, the CHP came to the major injury traffic crash on the southbound north of Harvard Road.
According to the investigation, a 26-year-old San Bernardino man drove at a high speed his 2015 Honda Civic with his 29-year-old passenger in the #1 lane. Meanwhile, a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe traveled ahead of him. The 42-year-old male driver drove the Tahoe at about 65 mph, together with his 36-year-old female passenger.
Then, the Honda crashed into the back of the Chevrolet Tahoe. Afterward, the Tahoe steered left and rolled over into the dirt center divider where it landed on its roof.
Meanwhile, the Honda steered to the right and stopped on the shoulder of the 15 freeway and caught fire. The CHP and emergency medical personnel came at the scene and confirmed that a 36-year-old female passenger in the Chevrolet succumbed to her injuries. Meanwhile, the Chevrolet driver and the Honda occupants suffered minor injuries.
The CHP officer also determined that the Honda driver appeared to be intoxicated.
Upon evaluation, the authorities arrested the driver for DUI causing injury. Then, the police booked him into the High Desert Detention Center.
Authorities firmly suspect that alcohol played a role in the crash.
Meanwhile, the Barstow area CHP handles the investigation. They are also urging anyone with information about the crash to call the CHP at 760-255-5900.
