Passenger Injured in Seattle Hit-and-Run Crash Involving Suspected Car Thief
SEATTLE, WA (November 27, 2018) – A woman was injured Sunday night in a hit-and-crash on Highway 509 near South Cloverdale Street in Seattle.
According to the Washington State Patrol, the woman was a passenger in a 1987 Pontiac Fiero which was driven by a suspected car thief being pursued by authorities.
The Pontiac was southbound on Highway 509 around 8:30 p.m. Sunday when the driver lost control and the car veered off the roadway and then rolled over. The driver got out of the vehicle and then ran off to the south, leaving the woman still in the passenger seat.
Emergency responders found the woman inside the car with serious injuries. She was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment and further evaluation. She was not wearing a seatbelt, officials said.
Meanwhile, Renton officials searched the area for the suspect with the assistance of police dogs but came up empty.
The Pontiac that the suspect was driving had been reported stolen on Thursday. WSP said that if the driver is captured, he’ll face potential felony hit-and-run charges in addition to any other charges.
