1 Hurt in Thurston County Multi-Vehicle Accident on 5 Freeway
THURSTON COUNTY, WA (September 27, 2020) – Thursday, a woman suffered injuries in a 6-vehicle crash on 5 Freeway near Maytown.
The State Patrol clarified that despite initial reports of 15 vehicles, the crash involved six. At around 12:30 p.m., a white passenger vehicle traveled erratically. Then, it struck the center jersey barrier on the northbound 5 Freeway. Afterward, a second vehicle collided with the white car.
The 20-year-old male Chehalis driver of the white car drove back into traffic and fled the scene. However, his action made a semi-trailer driver hit the brakes. Then, a second semi-trailer also hit the brake and struck the jersey barrier, forcing it into the southbound lanes.
Furthermore, a fifth vehicle then collided with the second semi-trailer. Also, a sixth vehicle, driving south, collided with the displaced jersey barrier.
According to reports, the crash left a 63-year-old Tumwater woman with injuries.
Furthermore, the State Patrol ruled the crash as a “personal injury hit-and-run collision.” They confirmed that the Chehalis man traveled at a “speed too fast for conditions.” During the crash, the road was wet after heavy rain swept through the area.
Meanwhile, the authorities shut down 5 Freeway for more than 5 hours.
