Dinuba Resident Killed and Jennifer Magana Injured in Rear-End Collision near Road 104

TULARE COUNTY, CA (July 4, 2018) – A woman was killed Wednesday morning and another was hospitalized following a hit-and-run crash on Avenue 408 near Road 104.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened around 4:30 AM. A gray 2011 Chevy Malibu was heading west on Avenue 408 when it struck the rear of a red 2005 Toyota Matrix driven by 21-year-old Jennifer Magana, of Sultana.

The impact of the collision caused the Matrix to slam into a pole, trapping a female passenger in the wreckage.

Magana sustained major injuries including a broken leg and internal damages. She was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno for treatment and medical evaluation. Unfortunately, Magana’s passenger, an unidentified 21-year-old Dinuba woman, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A preliminary investigation suggests that the Malibu was going above the posted 55 mph speed limit when it struck the rear of the Matrix traveling at a slower speed. It was also confirmed that the driver of the Malibu left the wrecked vehicle and was possibly picked up by another car that fled westbound.

The identities of the driver and the person who helped him escape were not immediately determined. CHP continues to seek the hit-and-run driver, and anyone who has relevant information is asked to contact the authorities as soon as possible.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the deceased. May she rest in peace.
