Fatal Pedestrian Collision near Mann Avenue, Mike Simpson Tanios Arrested
UNION CITY, CA (May 22, 2018) – A woman was fatally injured in a hit-and-run accident on Alvarado Niles Road, on Tuesday night.
The accident took place at 9:04 PM, as the unidentified victim was walking in a crosswalk. A car, driven by 29-year-old Mike Simpson Tanios of Fremont, was traveling eastbound when it struck the pedestrian.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene by responding officers. Her identity has not yet been released, pending notification of family. Tanios was arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run, after initially leaving the scene. He cooperated with police during their investigation.
Officials closed down Alvarado-Niles Road at Mann Avenue for about six hours, until around 3 AM.
