Woman Fatally Struck in Multiple Hit-and-Run Crash on Highway 23
Thousand Oaks, CA (August 20, 2020) – On Thursday, a woman died in a multiple hit-and-run crash on Highway 23.
The California Highway Patrol said the tragic accident happened early Thursday morning on northbound Highway 23.
Officer Ryan Ayers added that the CHP received calls of a pedestrian on the freeway just after 5 AM. They were informed that no drivers stopped to assist the victim.
When the CHP officers arrived, they found a woman in her 50s on the roadway. She was struck by multiple vehicles.
Furthermore, authorities are now investigating how the woman got on to the freeway. Also, they are looking into how many vehicles may have hit her.
“It’s definitely a tragedy,” he said. “We definitely feel for the family.”
The officer reminded drivers not to walk on the freeway, even if their car is broken. He said drivers should stay inside their vehicle or stand behind the guard rail if it’s really needed to leave the vehicle.
Ayers said ‘when it’s dark outside and you’re traveling at freeway speeds, people don’t exactly see until something’s right in front of them.” “It’s not a normal place you see a pedestrian.” Furthermore, Ayers noted it was illegal for pedestrians to be on the freeway.
Caltrans said the connector from Highway 101 southbound to Highway 23 was also closed. They advised the drivers to find alternate routes. It was reopened at about 11:07 AM.
Please call the Moorpark CHP at 805-553-0800 and ask for Officer G. Herzer if you have further details about the crash.

Dealing With Fatal Accidents
In a time filled with uncertainty, confronting a tragic loss can seem unimaginable. As the loved ones of the deceased victims grieve, it is also important to recognize that if your family loses a member in an accident, you may recover damages through a wrongful death suit.
Ultimately, a wrongful death lawsuit gives the loved ones of a departed family member some semblance of justice.
“The aftermath of tragic accidents can make everything difficult for a family. The last thing most families want to deal with is piles of paperwork, questions from insurance companies or defense attorneys, and attempting to obtain police reports. Grieving and handling legal claims don’t exactly go hand in hand, and this is why hiring an experienced attorney can not only provide you with peace of mind that you have a fighter in your corner but also having someone to make sure that your rights are respected and that justice will be served. Having legal representation after such a traumatic event will provide your family the space to heal while ensuring that justice is brought to your loved one,” says Mark Sweet, a seasoned attorney at Sweet Lawyers.
