Head-On Crash on Highway 173 Kills 50-Year-Old Woman
Hesperia, CA (September 17, 2021) – A hit-and-run crash on Highway 173 left a woman killed and another man critically injured on Wednesday night.
The incident happened on September 15 along Highway 173 near the Mojave River Forks Regional Park just after 6:30 p.m.
According to the report, two vehicles including a black 1999 Subaru Forester and a gold-colored 2003 Buick Century collided head-on.
The California Highway Patrol reported that the Buick was traveling northbound on Highway 173 when it crossed a double yellow line. As a result, it crashed head-on with the Subaru.
San Bernardino County Firefighters responded to the scene and pronounced the female passenger of the Subaru dead on the scene. They are withholding the release of the victims’ identification pending notification of her next-of-kin. Furthermore, the 50-year-old Subaru driver also suffered critical injuries from the collision. Medics airlifted him to Loma Linda Medical Center however, there has been no update regarding his current condition.

Authorities also reported that two children ages 10 and 12 complained of pain however, they did not consider it a serious injury.
A witness told officials that the occupants of the Subaru consist of grandparents and grandkids from Victorville. The grandparents were taking the kids to see a nearby waterfall.
According to the CHP incident logs, the suspect fled the scene on foot and left his vehicle. CHP identified the suspect as a white male adult last seen wearing a black beanie, black shirt, and blue jeans. CHP described him as 5’9″, having a slim build, approximately 60-65 years old. Moreover, he was seen wearing a watch on his right wrist.
