39-Year-Old Bicyclist Killed in Collision with Minivan near East Avenue

CHICO, CA (October 3, 2018) – A woman was killed Wednesday morning following a bicycle crash on Highway 32. The identity of the 39-year-old victim is being withheld, pending notification of family members.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident took place at about 9:20 AM near East Avenue. The westbound bicyclist made a left turn and failed to yield the right-of-way to the Dodge Mini Cam that was approaching from the opposite direction. There, the minivan struck the bicyclist.

The impact of the crash ejected the woman from the bike, causing critical injuries. She was later transported to Enloe Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead by medical staff. Meanwhile, the minivan driver, identified as 32-year-old Tara Daugelli of Chico, remained at the scene to cooperate with investigators.

Distracted driving or driving under the influence was not believed to have been a factor in the fatal collision, which remains under investigation. It was also noted that the bicyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. No additional information has been disclosed to the public at this time.
