Woman Fatally Injured in Phoenix DUI Pedestrian Crash on 40th Street
PHOENIX, AZ (September 2, 2019) – A DUI pedestrian crash on 40th Street left a woman dead on Saturday, August 31.
The collision happened shortly after 11 p.m. near 40th Street and McDowell Road.
According to the police, a Chevrolet truck struck an 18-year-old woman while she crossed the street.
Emergency personnel rushed her to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
Police stated that a 21-year-old man who drove the truck noticed the pedestrian in the roadway just before the incident. However, he was unable to stop, striking the pedestrian in the roadway.
The pedestrian was not in a crosswalk, police added.
The driver stayed on scene and police said he was impaired. Officials cited the driver for DUI and later released him.
According to police, speed does not appear to be a contributing factor.
