Woman Injured in Helendale Hit-and-Run Crash on National Trails Highway
HELENDALE, CA (July 5, 2019) — A woman was hurt following a hit-and-run crash on National Trails Highway in Helendale on Wednesday, July 3.
The accident happened at around 8:22 pm on National Trails Highway near Darghty Road, south of Vista Road. In addition, the incident involved a silver 2002 Mitsubishi Montero and a dark blue Hyundai.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the SUV struck the Hyundai and caused the Hyundai to go into an embankment. As a result, this left the driver of the Hyundai trapped in the vehicle.
San Bernardino County Firefighters rushed to the scene and extricated the driver from the vehicle. Reach Helicopter H325 airlifted the patient to a trauma center.
A CHP aviation helicopter responded and helped ground officers with searching the area for at least one person from the Montero who fled.
Officials shut down traffic on National Trails Highway until about 9:00 pm. The California Highway Patrol Victorville Station is still investigating the crash.
