3 Vehicles Involved in Deadly Collision on 215 Freeway at Placentia Avenue
PERRIS, CA (December 1, 2018) – A man was killed following a three-vehicle collision Saturday evening in Perris, according to the Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.
The fatal collision happened around 7:17 p.m. on southbound 215 Freeway at Placentia Avenue.
The vehicles involved were not described but during the crash, one of them had overturned in the center divider, crossing from the southbound side and into the northbound side of the freeway.
One of the drivers sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The deceased has been identified by the Riverside County Coroner officials on Sunday as William Shelton, 54, of Lemon Grove.
Another driver was injured and taken to a medical facility for treatment.
The crash raised a traffic alert, temporarily closing the first and second lanes of southbound 215 Freeway. The closures caused heavy traffic on the freeway, with many cars trying to exit spilling over to the Ramona Expressway.
No additional information was provided at this time. The full circumstances of the collision remain under investigation.
