Bicyclist William Riley James Taylor Killed in Anderson Accident on Thomas Road
ANDERSON, CA (October 13, 2020) – Sunday night, 33-year-old bicyclist William Riley James Taylor died in a crash south of Thomas Road on Highway 273.
According to authorities, at around 9:00 p.m., William Riley James Taylor, riding a bike in the fast lane died after an Anderson Police car driven by an officer struck the cyclist.
The bicyclist died at the scene even if the involved officer tried to save him. Furthermore, the officer sustained no injuries.
Meanwhile, a patrol car driven by an Anderson Police Sergeant arrived at the scene to redirect northbound traffic. However, a northbound sedan struck the patrol car. The driver of the sedan and the sergeant were both transported to a hospital.
Moreover, the sergeant who managed to jump off harm’s way only suffered minor injuries. Meanwhile, the sedan driver sustained major injuries and is being treated in the ICU.
Roman Madrid, a resident of Redding, said he witnessed the crash aftermath and called it a devastating scene.
“It was a little bit after 9 when we were leaving Anderson and we’d seen quite a few fire trucks and police vehicles, first responders going north on 273,” Madrid said. “The scene was devastating, the front of the police vehicle was smashed in and the Corolla, half the hood was just mangled. It wasn’t pretty… it wasn’t pretty at all.”
The vehicles involved were both heavily damaged, according to CHP
Furthermore, authorities identified the bicyclist as William Riley James Taylor, of Redding, California.
Both incidents are being investigated by the authorities.
