50-Year-Old West Hills Man Fatally Injured in Two-Car Crash near Summit Vue Drive
WOODLAND HILLS, CA (April 18, 2018) – On Wednesday afternoon, a two-vehicle collision on Shoup Avenue claimed the life of a 50-year-old man. He was later identified by Los Angeles coroner’s officials as Willian Melvern Rice of West Hills.
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, they received a report about a collision in the 6100 block of Shoup Avenue near Summit Vue Drive, at about 1:37 PM. 911 callers stated that the collision was between a black Cadillac Escalade SUV, driven by an adult female, and a BMW, driven by Rice.
In the initial investigation, officers stated that the crash occurred when the SUV, which was heading southbound, broadsided the victim’s sedan. He has just pulled into the road in a residential area. The impact pushed Rice’s car a significant distance, resulting in fatal injuries. Emergency responders arrive to the crash site and pronounced him dead on scene. It was also confirmed that he was not secured in a seatbelt when the collision happened.
Meanwhile, the driver of the SUV reportedly did not appear to have sustained any visible injuries, but she was still sent to a local hospital for further medical evaluation. Officers also gave her emotional support and assurance before proceeding with her hospitalization.
The LAPD Valley Traffic Division is still investigating the cause of the collision, and no other information is available to the public at this time.
Heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of William Rice. May he rest in peace.
