75-Year-Old Bicyclist Fatally Struck by Pickup Truck near Sigler Lane
COHASSET, CA (July 28, 2018) – A man lost his life Saturday morning after his bicycle was struck by a vehicle near Sigler Lane.
As per reports, the collision took place shortly before 10:30 AM on Saturday, July 28. 75-year-old Dr William Patrick Doherty was heading north on Cohasset Road when he attempted to avoid a crumbled portion of the roadway. He swerved into the traffic lane and collided with a northbound Ford F-150.
The impact threw the rider from his bike and caused major injuries. Doherty was rushed to Enloe Medical Center in Chico for treatment and medical evaluation. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries on Sunday, July 29, and was pronounced dead by medical staff. Meanwhile, the driver of the Ford, identified as 87-year-old Chico resident Jim Voyles, stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
An initial investigation determined that alcohol, drugs, and speed were not factors in the deadly crash. No additional information has been released to the public at this time.
