59-Year-Old William Bopf Dies after Crashing Car into Center Divider on 91 Freeway at Van Buren Boulevard
RIVERSIDE, CA (June 12, 2019) – A man was killed following a rollover crash early Wednesday morning on 91 Freeway in Riverside.
The crash happened around 2:00 a.m., along the westbound lanes of the freeway. Dispatchers arrived near Van Buren Boulevard shortly after.
According to the CHP, a dark-colored sedan was traveling at an unknown speed when it slammed into the concrete center-divider for unknown reasons.
The force then consequently pushed the barrier onto the opposite side of the freeway. The sedan also overturned and landed on its side as a result of the impact.
Furthermore, the driver of the vehicle was later identified as a 59-year-old William Bopf of Riverside. He was also found wedged inside the wreckage upon officers arrival.
Firefighters extricated Bopf using industrial equipment before he was later pronounced dead on scene.
Three westbound and two eastbound lanes were closed for the on-scene investigation. However, all lanes were eventually re-opened by 6:00 a.m.
