Actor Will Ferrell Hospitalized after Car Crash South of Alicia Parkway in Mission Viejo
ORANGE COUNTY, CA (April 12, 2018) – Four people were injured in a two-car crash that occurred on the 5 Freeway, late Thursday night.
According to Orange County Fire Authority, Larry Kurtz, the accident took place around 10:55 PM, just south of Alicia Parkway in the Mission Viejo area. Two vehicles, a 2017 Lincoln SUV and a 2007 Toyota sedan, were traveling northbound on the 5 Freeway in the HOV lane.
22-year-old Jacob Espinoza, driver of the Toyota, swerved to the left for unknown reasons and sideswiped the SUV, containing 50-year-old comedian Will Ferrell and three other people were inside of the Lincoln at the time of the accident. The SUV then crashed into the center divider median and overturned; it came to a rest on its side in the middle of the highway.
Ferrell, along with three others, was taken to the Mission Hospital for further treatment and evaluation. Carolina Barrow, 27, of Los Angeles was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, and suffered serious injuries. No injuries were reported in the second vehicle.
The northbound lanes were temporarily shut down during investigation and cleanup. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the collision, and do not believe that drugs or alcohol were contributing factors.
The group had just left the “Funny or Die” Event near San Diego, where he played his Anchorman character, Ron Burgundy.
When driving on the highway, it is important to remain alert and aware at all times, especially when traveling at high speeds. By paying attention to your surroundings and following the rules of the road, dangerous accidents can be prevented.
