79-Year-Old Live Oak Man Fatally Struck by Vehicle near Brubaker Road, Darshan Johal Involved
LIVE OAK, CA (October 2, 2018) – An elderly man was killed Tuesday evening following a pedestrian crash near Brubaker Road. The victim was later identified as 79-year-old Wilbur Menth, a resident of Live Oak.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident took place shortly before 10:00 PM in the 10900 block of Larkin Road. The pedestrian was standing in the middle of the roadway, waving his hands at oncoming traffic. A short time later, he was struck by a white Nissan.
Menth sustained fatal injuries after he was dragged underneath the vehicle for a short distance. Emergency responders attempted to resuscitate the victim, but he was later pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Nissan, identified as 53-year-old Darshan Johal of Yuba, remained to cooperate with investigators.
An investigation is ongoing to determine why Menth was in the roadway and to identify possible contributing factors. No other information has been disclosed to the public at this time.
