Suspected DUI and Hit-and-Run Driver Arrested after Bike Accident on Meyer Road
WHITTIER, CA (April 18, 2018) – A hit-and-run bicycle collision on Meyer Road sent a teenage cyclist to the hospital with injuries on Wednesday evening.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened at about 8:06 PM in the 13400 block of Meyer Road. Two teenagers were on their bicycles when a vehicle slammed into one of them and fled from the scene. The victim’s identity was not released to the public, only that he is around 14–years-old.
Responding paramedics rushed the male juvenile to a trauma center for evaluation and treatment, but his current condition was not immediately known.
People who were around to witness the hit-and-run crash chased after the vehicle and called for the attention of a parks bureau deputy. The responding deputy detained the suspect and handed him over to the California Highway Patrol authorities.
The victim’s friend, who was riding with him, was not injured. He stayed with his friend until authorities arrived at the scene.
It is believed that the driver was intoxicated when the collision occurred, as per witnesses. The CHP-Santa Fe Springs Office is still investigating the driver and the collision, and no other information is available to the public at the moment.
