Whitney Pearl, Jose Torres Jr., and Robert Taylor in Fatal Train Collision with SUV in Richmond
RICHMOND, CA (October 29, 2019) — Three people died when an Amtrak train collided with their vehicle at a railroad crossing in Richmond early Monday.
According to the authorities, the crash happened near Brookside Drive and Giant Road. A northbound long-distance Amtrak train crashed into a sport utility vehicle at about 12:08 a.m.
The impact killed three people inside the SUV. The coroner’s office has identified the victims as 30-year-old Whitney Pearl, 30-year-old Jose Torres Jr., and 58-year-old Robert Taylor. All three were from Richmond.
Meantime, no one was injured on the train.
An initial investigation showed that both the train’s controls and the railroad track signals appeared to be working properly. However, the investigation is ongoing.
