Wesley Besaw and Kristi Mathews Hurt in Disastrous Head-On Collision on Highway 49 [Grass Valley, CA]

Grass Valley, CA (June 22, 2023) On Monday, 68-year-old Wesley Besaw of Grass Valley and 57-year-old Kristi Mathews of Berkeley were seriously hurt after a head-on collision on Highway 49.

According to the CHP, the 2-vehicle crash happened around noon on a two-lane stretch near Mack Road, south of McKnight Road.

Reports say that both vehicles had sole occupants, and both drivers suffered serious injuries due to the collision. Officials say that Mathews sustained major, unspecified, internal injuries and Besaw may have had a broken leg. Both patients were airlifted to Sutter-Roseville Medical Center.

CHP is investigating the 2-vehicle crash but believes that Mathews may have been at fault. Officials say that the area is a dangerous spot, with not much shoulder width and little room for error.
