Waukela Dowd Dead after Solo-Car Accident in Crescent City; Miguel Cruz Vasquez, Rocky Dowd, and James Dowd Injured
CRESCENT CITY, CA (May 21, 2019) – A driver died and three others suffered injuries following a solo-vehicle crash on Friday, May 17.
Authorities identified the deceased driver as 17-year-old Waukela Dowd of Klamath.
According to the CHP, at around 2:50 p.m., Klamath lost control of her Mazda sedan traveling southbound on Highway 101. This caused her to cross into oncoming traffic. Dowd’s car did not strike any other vehicles but it slammed into a tree before going 30 to 40 feet down an embankment.
Dowd died at the scene. 39-year-old Rocky Dowd and 4-year-old James Dowd suffered major injuries in the incident. The other passenger, 19-year-old Miguel Cruz Vasquez sustained minor injuries. Emergency responders arrived at the scene to render aid. Paramedics rushed all three injured victims to St. Joseph Hospital for treatment.
The cause of the crash is under investigation by CHP.
