Distracted Driver Responsible for Pedestrian Accident Arrested after Police Find Gun in Car
WATSONVILLE, CA (April 4, 2018) – A pedestrian collision on Airport Boulevard left a woman in critical condition, on Wednesday morning.
According to the Watsonville Police Department, the accident occurred on Airport Blvd near Holm Road at around 8:00 AM. A woman in her twenties was crossing the street, when a silver 2012 Ford Fusion heading west crashed into her.
In the preliminary investigation, it was revealed that the driver did not see the woman crossing, as he was on his phone for navigation until the vehicle struck her. The woman suffered critical injuries and was airlifted to a trauma center for treatment. There is currently no update on her condition.
Authorities arrested the driver after they found a gun in his car. Legal charges related to the pedestrian collision might also be filed against him once the Santa Cruz County District Attorney’s office completes their in-depth investigation. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be involved as factors in the accident. The identities of the woman and the driver are not yet released to the public. No other information is available at the time.
