2 Killed in South Los Angeles Pedestrian Crashes
SOUTH LOS ANGELES, CA (October 8, 2019) – Two people died in two separate hit-and-run crashes in South Los Angeles.
61-year-old Wardell Nelson Jr. died after a southbound vehicle struck him around 3:40 a.m. on Figueroa Street. The vehicle struck the pedestrian as he crossed the street. According to reports, Nelson crossed eastbound Manchester Boulevard at Figueroa Street on the south side crosswalk.
The first vehicle escaped the scene and left Wardell Nelson motionless on the ground. Meanwhile. a second vehicle, a silver Chevy Traverse, hit him again. The Chevy driver stayed at the scene.
However, Wardell Nelson Jr. died at the scene.
Just two days after, a 61-year-old woman also died after a hit-and-run accident a little over a mile away in the neighboring area of Vermont Vista. Several vehicles hit the woman.
The LAPD is currently looking for the drivers involved in the separate crashes.
There is a reward of up to $50,000 is available for tips leading to an arrest and conviction or other resolution to both cases.
