Head-On Crash on Bethel Island Road in Oakley Kills 1 and Injures 2 Others
OAKLEY, CA (November 27, 2019) – A man died in a head-on crash the night before Thanksgiving in Oakley.
The fatal crash happened a little before 6:00 p.m. on Bethel Island Road, just north of Cypress Road.
According to the CHP, a Dodge sedan was heading south on Bethel Island Road when it collided head-on with another vehicle.
Responding firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life to extract the driver of the Dodge from the wreckage. Paramedics then airlifted the driver to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, where the man succumbed to his injuries.
The Contra Costa Sheriff Office identified the deceased as Wally Driskell, 69, of Bethel Island. Driskell was a sole occupant of his car.
Two occupants of the other vehicle, including a pregnant woman, were transported by ground ambulance to Sutter Delta Medical Center in Antioch with injuries ranging from minor to moderate.
The Oakley Police Department said there was no indication that either driver was impaired in any way. The crash remains under investigation.
We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Wally Driskell in this very unfortunate time of their lives.
