Los Osos Man Critically Injured after Bicycle Accident on Highway 41 near Salinas River Bridge
NORTH COUNTY, CA (August 19, 2019) – Authorities identified 85-year-old Wade Akle of Los Osos as the bicyclist injured in an accident on Highway 41.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened just east of Atascadero city limits. The victim was eastbound on his BLIX Electric bicycle when he suffered an unknown medical emergency and fell off his bike.
Unable to brace himself from the fall, he struck his face onto the paved shoulder. Despite the protection from his bicycle helmet, he still suffered major head trauma. Emergency responders rushed the victim to Sierra Vista Hospital in San Luis Obispo, where he underwent surgery. As of Wednesday, he remains in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit).
