Fatal Pedestrian Crash on Highway 78 in Vista
VISTA, CA (April 30, 2019) – A man was fatally struck by multiple vehicles on Highway 78 Tuesday evening, near Emerald Drive.
According to reports, a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck and a Mazda 3 hatchback struck the male as he attempted to cross lanes on the highway. Officials identified the pedestrian as a homeless man in his 30s. However, his name has not yet been given.
A physician stopped and provided medical assistance to the injured pedestrian until fire personnel eventually arrived. They immediately transported him to Palomar Medical Center for further treatment, due to his condition.
The pedestrian was reportedly suffering major injuries as a result of the impact. He eventually succumbed to his injuries, and was later pronounced dead.
Furthermore, all highway lanes of the highway were consequently closed for a brief time while evidence from the scene was collected and photographed.
Moreover, it is currently unknown if charges have been filed. Liability has also not yet been determined, as the incident still remains under investigation at this time.
